We have had five significant exchanges between Santa Barbara and Kotor pertaining to water polo.​

  • June 2016 - Santa Barbara welcomed a water polo team from Kotor, Montenegro. The arriving team consisted of fourteen players (ages 14 - 16) and four officials. The young athletes spent a week in Santa Barbara training and competing daily with Santa Barbara's local teams.  This was the first time a water polo team from Kotor traveled to Santa Barbara.  


  • March 2014 - fourteen boys (U18) and four coaches from the Santa Barbara Aquatics Club traveled to Kotor to train with the water polo teams from Cattaro Club and Primorac Club. The team received training and guidance from Olympic Champion and World Champion Coach Mirko Vičević  of Kotor, Montenegro.    


  • June 2012 - sixteen boys and two coaches from the Santa Barbara Water Polo Club (14U) traveled to Montenegro to train with the youth water polo teams of Kotor.  The boys scrimmaged twice a day with teams from the Cattaro Club and the Primorac Club.  The Primorac Club is one of the premier water polo clubs in Europe.  Joining the team in Kotor were 17 parents and siblings.


  • June 2010 - the European Champion Montenegro team traveled to California to compete against the U.S. National team.  During their visit the team came to Santa Barbara for an exhibition match with the UCSB water polo team.  


  • July of  2009 - five UCSB water polo players traveled to Kotor to train with the coach of the Montenegro National team. ​
